Diabetes Management
Overview
Diabetes is a long-term condition that affects how efficiently the body metabolizes glucose, or blood sugar. Type 2 diabetes occurs from improper use of insulin whereas Type 1 diabetes develops from poor insulin production. Management of diabetes requires that one regulates the sugar levels in the blood by regulating it with food, medications, exercise, and also by checkup from time to time.
Prevention
A healthy diet with high consumption of whole foods, regular exercise, and a healthy body weight are considered preventive measures against Type 2 diabetes. Lack of exercise and less intake of processed sugars may help prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.
Symptoms
Symptoms of diabetes: It causes excessive hunger and urination, severe appetite, unexplained weight loss, and exhaustion. Poorly controlled diabetes leads to serious complications such as renal failure, nerve damage, and cardiac disease. Preventing late complications and maintaining health therefore require timely treatment and monitoring at appropriate intervals.
